Restaurants near to the Gite

In Payra, three kilometres distant is M. Martin's restaurant, Le Vieux Four. This is a converted bakery and most of the cooking is done in the baker's oven in the dining room. He rears his own chickens and rabbits and obtains other meats locally. The wines are selected from the best in the region.

His Foie Gras cooked in Sauternes is a treat not to be missed and his potatoes au gratin are to die for. Also recommended is marmelade of hare, confit of duck, and pain perdu.

The 'ferme auberge' of Le Puget [about 10 minutes drive away] offers superb home-reared and home-grown produce on its generous menu. For atmosphere try to go for Sunday lunch.

Further afield the Hotel du Commerce in Mirepoix is good, particularly for Sunday lunch. The tree-shaded courtyard is an ideal place in good weather to enjoy your meal. The Auberge du Poids Public at St. Felix du Lauragais is a more extravagent venue for the special meal out.

There are a host of other restaurants in Mirepoix, Salles and Castelnaudry so you can eat in a different place each night. Comprehensive details are in the information file at the gite.
