SHOPS IN THE MAYREVILLE AREA

A stay at a French Holiday Home gives many opportunities for good food, both for eating on holiday or to bring home. Fresh produce is available in abundance to supplement the French wines and cheeses available throughout the country.

Local Farms

In the nearby villages at Pech Luna and Payra local farms specialise in various cheeses of high quality which we bring home every time we visit. Goat cheeses can be preserved in olive oil for many months. Madame Brosse at the farm of Joutet in Pech Luna is particularly recommended. Milk from the cow can be bought at Chateau de la Bade in Mayreville. Eggs can be bought at several places in the village. Fois Gras and Confit de Canard and other duck products can be bought at the farm Bellemère near Belpech.

Markets

There are excellent markets at Castelnaudary and Mirepoix offering a range of local produce and crafts, including bread, cheese, fruit, honey, garden produce, and clothes.

Supermarkets

For general foodstuffs there are good supermarkets at Mirepoix and Castelnaudary, both 20 minutes drive away. The nearest general store is at Salles sur l'Hers, 8km away.
